The Bode lab at the MPI Marburg discovered a new detoxine/rimosamide-like natural product, pseudotetraivprolide, made by Pseudomonas that protects Bacillus cereus from blasticidin S. By combining genetics, chemistry, enzymology, and modeling, we uncovered how it is built, showing that FabD acts as a trans-AT and that PipDFG form a final acetylation complex that stabilizes and activates the product. The Grininger lab helped dissect the biosynthetic machinery, focusing on how polyketide synthase–driven secondary metabolism connects with primary fatty-acid metabolism.
